Coming as he did, within living memory and behavior of The Time of Captivity, aka slavery, Noble Prophet Drew Ali brought to a nearly destroyed people the 2/5 of their humanity stripped from them by the very government they helped to establish. By reminding the Moors of their nationality and religion, he sparked our collective journey to fulfill the words of all the divine Prophets.
Islam is a global religion founded by Prophet Muhammad in the 7th century, widely practiced today and often tied to Arab identity and culture. Islamism, as taught by Prophet Noble Drew Ali, is the true and old-time religion of the Moorish people—rooted in our indigenous spiritual heritage and national identity. It is not bound to any foreign language, culture, or colonial power.
Moorish Americans honor all true and divine prophets, including Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, and Confucius. We are free to practice any religion of our choosing without compromising our nationality. However, Islamism is the divinely prepared faith that aligns with our nature, history, and mission to uplift fallen humanity. It teaches love, truth, peace, freedom, and justice as principles of national life.
Islam is a religion. Islamism is our national faith and way of life. The distinction matters—especially for those reclaiming Moorish identity from beneath colonial erasure.
As the inheritors of the oppressions of our foremothers and forefathers, we are TOO well aware of the slings and arrows we have to face. After 20+ generations, we the sincere Moors are more than prepared both defensively and offensively. We are NOT trying to usurp that of another--for what?? To what end??? The world knows who is the most copied Man on Earth, so why would we copy ANYONE? So, If it looks like copying, it likely retreival. After a basic search I was able to locate the difference betwwen the flag chosen for the Empire of the Moors, vs the one being used by the Kingdom of Morocco.
The image shows two distinct flags—not one. On the left is the modern Moroccan flag, introduced in 1915 under French-backed Sultan Yusef and later revised in 2005. Its five-pointed star is a broken pentagram, with interlaced lines known officially as “continuous branches.” On the right is the ancient Moorish banner, preserved through oral tradition and reaffirmed by Prophet Noble Drew Ali as “over 10,000 years old.” This version features a contiguous five-pointed green star, unbroken and fully connected. The visual contrast is more than aesthetic—it marks the difference between a symbol imposed by colonial authority and one rooted in indigenous sovereignty. Moorish Americans honor the ancient banner as a sacred national standard, not a cultural relic. Learning to distinguish between the two is a crucial first step in unlearning colonial narratives and reconnecting with authentic Moorish identity. Study the stars—don’t confuse them.

Being Moorish is not the same as being Moroccan, Arab, Muslim, or Berber. These are modern identities shaped by conquest, colonization, or religious imperialism. Moorish Americans are not Arabs, and our religion is Islamism, not the Islam brought through Arab conquest.
This page is here to help those who are ready to study, learn, and reclaim their heritage—without needing permission from the descendants of colonizers or their apologists.
